1- 2 Aug 12, 2003 The Model Home To avoid being placed in foster care Ryan runs away with the help of Seth and Marissa. Seth tells Ryan to stay at his mother's model house. When Sandy realizes that Ryan has run away. Kirsten calls the police.
1- 3 Aug 19, 2003 The Gamble The Cohens take in Ryan's mom, even though she may be bluffing about her recent rehabilitation. Julie plays Sandy against his own wife after learning of Kirsten's secret loan to Jimmy; and Marissa gets an unexpected hand in winning back a jealous Luke.
1- 4 Aug 26, 2003 The Debut The Cohens agree to be Ryan's guardians as long as he stays out of trouble, which could be a problem since Marissa's deb ball is looming and Luke is no longer the only escort option in town. Meanwhile, Jimmy's crimes begin to catch up with him, leading to a public revelation.

Meanwhile, Ryan, Marissa, Seth and Summer share close quarters on a road trip to Tijuana. Marissa learns about her parents' divorce and, once in Mexico, learns the truth about Luke.

1-11 Nov 19, 2003 The Homecoming Ryan enlists Marissa and her vehicle to make a trip to his old neighbourhood to settle a outstanding debt his brother Trey had with Arturo before going to jail. Arturo's little sister Theresa, the girl Ryan on and off again dated for years,meets they have a little getting to know you conversation, which doesn't end so well.
1-12 Nov 26, 2003 The Secret Marissa wants to do a school project with Ryan, but instead the teacher partners Ryan with Luke. Ryan goes to Luke's house for the project, and meets his parents and brothers. Later, Luke's dad "comes out of the closet". Because of that, Luke and Ryan get into a fight but on the same side this time, as rival footballplayers make fun of Luke's dad.
1-13 Dec 3, 2003 The Best Chrismukkah Ryan and Marissa go shopping. As they exit the store, a guard stops them and asks to see Marissa's purse because, yes, she was shoplifting. Later, Ryan and Marissa, a bottle in her hands, are in a car and the cops pull them over for a broken taillight. Marissa promises she'll get help and she does. Marissa goes at a therapist office where she meets Oliver.
1-14 Dec 17, 2003 The Countdown Hailey Nichol, Kirsten's sister, arrives at the Cohen house and throws a wild New Year's Party at the Cohen home. Ryan discovers she owes a lot of money to her friend Yvette. Seth seems to have decided to be friends with both Anna and Summer. The latter seems ready to move on, but Anna still has feelings for him.
1-15 Jan 7, 2004 The Third Wheel Luke's tire is slashed and Ryan helps him out. They both have made New Year's resolutions to get into fewer fights. Oliver gets the gang into a club to hear a band. Ryan sees Oliver busted for buying drugs and gets Sandy to bail him out. Anna and Summer bond over the Golden Girls.
1-16 14 Jan 14, 2004 The Links Sandy and Jimmy decide to go into business; Caleb shuts off Hailey's cash flow. Seth and Anna anticipate spending some time alone as Summer and Luke bond over being single. Ryan and Marissa's disagreement about Oliver reaches new heights when Oliver claims he tried to kill himself.
1-17 Jan 21, 2004 The Rivals After Oliver transfers to Harbor, Ryan is caught breaking into Dr. Kim's office to read his file. He learns that Oliver was institutionalized for cutting his wrists because a girl filed a restraining order against him. Ryan will have to go in front of the Disciplinary Committee and could face suspension or expulsion from the school.
1-18 Feb 11, 2004 The Truth Kirsten and Sandy worry about what is going on with Ryan. Ryan and Luke set out to help Marissa. Caleb decides to fire Julie. Ryan and Sandy go to Oliver's penthouse. Oliver holds Marissa at gunpoint before turning using it on himself.
1-19 Feb 18, 2004 The Heartbreak Valentine's Day sees Ryan reconnecting with Theresa and disconnecting from Marissa after the nightmare that was Oliver. Jimmy finds out he has a secret admirer in the Cohen house. Seth and Summer decide to take their friendship to a new level, which doesn't go all that well.
1-20 Feb 25, 2004 The Telenovela (The F-Word) When Summer ignores Seth while working a kissing booth, he forces her to make a choice...her popularity or him. Love prevails when Summer kisses Seth, revealing their relationship in front of everyone. Ryan learns Theresa is engaged to Eddie. Sandy suspects Caleb of doing something shady.
1-21 Mar 3, 2004 The Goodbye Girl Anna announces that she is leaving Newport to go back to Pittsburgh, which leave Seth feeling saddened and guilt-ridden. Legal troubles brew for Caleb and Kirsten while Sandy works to solve them. Luke and Julie's secret romance is getting harder to contain, and Theresa brings a bit of trouble from Chino to the O.C.
1-22 Mar 24, 2004 The L.A. Ryan, Marissa, and Seth go to a club and find Hailey working there. Seth rescue's Summer from Grady. Jimmy shows up to rescue Hailey, Ryan, Seth and Marissa from the owner of the club. Luke confronts Julie about what happened between them.
1-23 Mar 31, 2004 The Nana Nana Cohen comes to California for Passover with some tragic news. Ryan searches for Marissa, who'd gone missing after learning Julie and Luke's secret, and he finds her in the most unlikely of places. Summer tries to impress Nana. Jimmy and Hailey take a step forward.
1-24 Apr 14, 2004 The Proposal When Sandy and Jimmy have problems getting a liquor license for the restaurant, thanks to Jimmy's criminal past, Caleb offers to buy them out. Julie accepts a proposal from Caleb.
1-25 Apr 21, 2004 The Shower Seth and Summer have dinner with Summer's dad. Haley and Jimmy are ready to tell Kirsten they are dating. Ryan finds out Eddie has been abusing Theresa. Marissa invites her aunt Cindy to Julie's shower.
1-26 Apr 28, 2004 The Strip Caleb and the Cohens go to Las Vegas for a bachelor party, where Ryan and Seth find themselves in trouble with a pimp. Marissa learns Theresa's is pregnant and Ryan may be the dad. Kirsten throws Julie a bachelorette party with firemen strippers.
1-27 12-May-04 The Ties That Bind

The Cohen family is desperate to convince Seth, who ran away at the beginning of the summer, to return home. Meanwhile in Chino, Ryan is working construction while a pregnant Theresa waits at home. Back in Newport Beach, while Summer is finding ways to deal with Seth's disappearance, Marissa is distancing herself from the world and masking her problems by reverting to old habits.
2- 2 Nov 11, 2004 The Way We Were It's back to school for Seth and Ryan, who want to win back the attention they once had from Summer and Marissa. With opportunity beckoning, Hailey tells Jimmy about her plans to move in order to pursue her unfulfilled ambitions with fashion. Hoping to keep her near, Jimmy does something unimaginable. Meanwhile, Sandy explains to Julie that the district attorney is keeping a close watch on Caleb, and without representation, he might be in for a confrontation. Julie threatens Sandy to do something about Caleb's mess, or else.
2- 3 Nov 18, 2004 The New Kids on the Block Seth gets some help from Alex to prove that his friends don't know him as well as they think. Meanwhile, Summer gives some thought to how she really feels about Seth after she learns new information about Zach. Marissa is happy to share an evening with Ryan. But at school, Ryan finds himself embarrassed and frustrated after a run-in with new classmate Lindsay. Caleb's legal problems threaten to leave both Sandy and Kirsten unemployed as Julie makes sure she stays on top even if Caleb goes down on.
2- 4 Dec 2, 2004 The New Era As Seth and Sandy embark on new adventures, they take the rest of the family along for the ride. Ryan and Seth go on an awkward double date to see The Killers perform in concert, with unexpected results. Meanwhile, Julie finds herself overwhelmed by her new role at the Newport Group and, as usual, is forced to turn to Kirsten for help.

Meanwhile, Seth tries to be a "bad boy" like Ryan to improve his relationship with Alex by getting drunk and stealing Caleb's car.

When they arrive at The Bait Shop, Kirsten realizes Sandy and the boys have orchestrated a celebration, and when Sandy takes the stage for a serenade it becomes an anniversary to remember.
2- 9 Jan 20, 2005 The Ex-Factor The return of Alex's ex gives Seth an insight into the sort of woman he's sort of dating, as Ryan gives Marissa hell for letting Lindsay booze her way through a girls night out. Meanwhile, Sandy's idea to salvage the Newport Group's image hits a dead end with Julie's face plastered all over it.
2-10 Jan 27, 2005 The Accomplice Professor Jeffrey Bloom, Sandy's former mentor, drops by Sandy's new office for help tracking down his daughter Rebecca because his health is getting worse and he would like to see her before he dies. Ryan tries to help Lindsay develop a better relationship with Caleb. Zach convinces Seth to start a comic book to help him get over Alex.
2-11 Feb 3, 2005 The Second Chance Summer decides to take an active role in the making of the comic book, but Seth doesn't know if he can handle spending that much time alone with her. Sandy and Rebecca reminisce about days gone by as Kirsten tries to convince Caleb that he could have a relationship with Lindsay.
2-12 Feb 10, 2005 The Lonely Hearts Sandy tries to make up for keeping Rebecca's return a secret from Kirsten by showering her with Valentine's Day gifts. Zach, Summer and Seth head to San Diego to pitch their comic book idea, and Seth is determined to use the trip to get Summer back. Julie returns from her European vacation and has decided to reconnect with Marissa.
2-13 Feb 17, 2005 The Test While Rebecca pays her last respects to her father, Kirsten grows impatient with Sandy’s long absences from home and pays Rebecca a visit. Alex invites Marissa to hang out with her friends. Meanwhile, Caleb decides to remove all doubt that Lindsay is his daughter.
2-14 Feb 24, 2005 The Rainy Day Women Marissa tells Julie that she and Alex are an item and decides she has to get out of Caleb's house. Summer is faced with a big decision as she prepares to go Italy with Zach. Ryan convinces Lindsay to take the paternity test and everyone anxiously awaits the results. Meanwhile, Sandy finds himself stranded in a motel room with nothing but a few snacks, champagne and Rebecca.
2-15 Mar 10, 2005 The Mallpisode Lindsay's actions have left Ryan and Caleb confused. Marissa is trying hard to make her new living situation work, but she needs a break and agrees to join Summer, Seth and Ryan at the mall. Julie and Kirsten await the arrival of Carter, the new editor of Newport Living, but Julie is distracted when she's visited by Lance, an opportunistic man from her past. Meanwhile, Sandy and Caleb finally bond over all of their recent experiences.
2-16 Mar 17, 2005 The Blaze of Glory Seth is determined to bring back the spirit and fun times of last year and won't stop until his plan is fulfilled. Alex's jealousy is fueled when Marissa enlists an unlikely partner to help her with the school bonfire. Meanwhile, Kirsten wants Carter to stick with the magazine despite his reservations and Sandy helps Julie keep her blackmailer at bay.
2-17 Mar 24, 2005 The Brothers Grim When Ryan's past comes for a visit, he is worried that nothing good can come of it. Meanwhile, the Cohen family has welcomed the visitor from Chino with open arms. Marissa and Ryan continue to explore their newfound friendship, while Seth and Summer face some unforeseen news. Meanwhile, Julie admits her mistake to Kirsten and looks to Caleb for help.
